Here’s my playthrough of the first temple, start to finish. Not as deep as Hades, and minus all the delicious story elements, but still a good action game that will put your skills to the test. There are various upgrades and items to find along the way also, to take a bit of the edge off all the curses. Each temple has its own enemy types and different bosses, traps and environments which gives the game some decent variety and challenge.Īn array of weapons, secondary weapons (which can be light or ranged) and two-handed weapons means you’ll have plenty of ways to take down enemies. If that happens or you die you’ll have to start at the beginning and fight your way back through a random layout of rooms, each with different rewards and obstacles. If you max out your curses your run is over. Other curses will make traps invisible or more deadly, or give buffs to enemies and so forth. The first curse I ever received was one that prevented me from seeing what the subsequent curses even did, so by the end of that run I was rolling around with three or four curses and had no way of knowing what penalties I’d incurred. These are varied and make life much more difficult for you as you approach the final boss of each temple. Each time you build up your curse meter-which increases when you enter new rooms, heal yourself, or make purchases with blood instead of gold-you’ll get slapped with a new curse. There’s also a curse system somewhat reminiscent of Darkest Dungeon’s afflictions.
